Karel Teissig

Stunning posters by Czech master of graphic design Karel Teissig (1925-2000). They are just perfect constructions of shape, colour and texture, unnervingly surreal, yet bold and direct at the same time. It gives each film an air of mystery and imagination and just makes me want to seek out each of these celluloid treasures! In the words of Teissig: “A successful film poster should be beautiful, somewhat mysterious, highly intelligent, brief and inventive. Shouting suits posters for food and other consumer goods. A film poster operates in a sphere of the spirit and emotions, and so meditation and philosophical concerns are in place here, tying threads to a contemporary feeling for life.”
